Sunshine Coast’s first Palliative Care Conference

We are humbled and grateful to Sundale for hosting the Sunshine Coast’s first Palliative Care Conference. This two-day event was a truly remarkable opportunity to discuss the benefits of palliative care and to recognise and celebrate the incredible dedication of all those working and volunteering in palliative care throughout the Sunshine Coast.

We were particularly moved by the keynote address delivered by Sundale resident Bonnie Thomas, whose powerful story highlighted the importance of quality and compassionate palliative care. Bonnie's experience reminded us that palliative care is not just about physical and medical intervention but also about the emotional support, kindness, and compassion that can make all the difference to residents and their families.

We would like to commend Sundale for their initiative in bringing together nurses, carers, aged care workers, and volunteers from dozens of Sunshine Coast aged care providers to lead important conversations about palliative care. We also want to take a moment to recognise and celebrate the amazing dedication of all those working and volunteering in palliative care throughout the Sunshine Coast.

We know that this conference would not have been possible without funding from End of Life Directions for Aged Care (ELDAC), whose Care Model is a valuable guide to help aged care staff and health professionals meet the needs of older Australians coming to the end of their life and reflects national policies and practices in palliative care.

We would like to express our gratitude to Sundale for their unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life for residents and clients and their families during their most vulnerable moments. We are proud to support your efforts and look forward to seeing the positive impact you will continue to make in our community.
